The summer intern program will run approximately twelve weeks and allow the student to transition from the university curriculum to a practical application found in a professional facility management setting. The intern will observe daily operations within each area of Campus Operations under departmental supervision by weekly rotations through the following facility operations: • Design & Construction • Engineering & Operations • Occupational Health & Safety. The intern will be exposed to a wide variety of facility related tasks and activities in these areas. Upon conclusion of the program, the participant should leave with an enhanced understanding of Facility Management.

 

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Assist with the field execution and support of campus construction projects.
  • Assist with field review of design documents against field installations by trade contractors.
  • Assisting with estimating, developing bid package, issuing RFI’s, coordination of submittals.
  • Assist with project close out activities.
  • Assist with tracking project budgets, change orders and budget forecasting.
  • Preparing red line as built drawings and verification of contractor provided as built drawings.
  • Assist with campus construction safety enforcement and contractor orientations.
  • Assisting with conformance and tracking of daily permitting tasks such as hot work permits and JSA (Job Safety Analysis).

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate in Construction Management or Engineering degree at an Accredited University.
  • Currently in Junior level or Senior level project courses specifically related to the degree.
  • Strong oral, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Must lead by example through strong work ethics and high standards.
  • Desire to continue to promote personal devotement.
  • Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, Outlook, PowerPoint, Autocad (Revit).

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The individual must be able to:

  • Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
