The primary responsibility of the HVAC (Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) technician is the inspection, maintenance and repair of refrigeration equipment including but not limited to, refrigerated air handlers, coolers, freezers and cooling systems to maintain required temperatures. Also responsible for ice machines and associated (RO) reverse osmosis units. Position requires individual to tests for leaks, traces electrical systems and operations of thermostats. In addition, this position requires compliance with all state and federal laws regarding the use and disposal of refrigerant. This position requires the maintenance of tools and work areas in order to reflect a professional appearance. This position necessitates professional and effective communication with medical staff, patients, families and the general public.

 

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
• Installation, troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance or demolition of all refrigerated equipment in a hospital setting on both normal and emergency power.
• Installs or removes refrigerated gasses according to EPA regulation. Tracks acquisition and disposal of unused refrigerant.
• Uses tools and equipment of the trade properly.
• Maintains non-refrigerated supplemental accessories such as RO units associated with ice machines. Uses time effectively while performing all duties under minimal supervision.
• May be required to work other than scheduled hours.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• High School or GED Equivalency Diploma
• One-year employment in the industry or training at an approved trade school.
• Must have EPA Universal refrigerant certification.

• Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
