The surgical technologist serves as an integral part of the team of medical
practitioners providing surgical care to patients. Surgical technologists work under the
supervision of a circulating RN and/or physician to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of
invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that
equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions
that maximize patient safety.

 

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE: 

(1) Fulltime day shift 6:30 am to 3:00 pm 

 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
-Ability to assess, project and plan for procedural needs
-Possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.
-Combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation
 tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of safe patient outcomes.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
-Ability to assess, project and plan for procedural needs
-Possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.
-Combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation
 tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and
 diagnostic procedures.
-Surgical technologists graduate from surgical technology programs accredited through
 ARC/STSA, a collaborative effort of AST and ACS, by CAAHEP. CAAHEP is a
 recognized accreditation agency of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation
 (CHEA). In addition, surgical technology programs are located in educational
 institutions that are institutionally accredited by agencies recognized by the United States
 Department of Education (USDE) or The Joint Commission. The ARC/STSA is also a
 member of the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA).
-Employee can be hired as a Surgical Tech I and not be certified; however, must
 become certified within 180 days of graduation from surgical technologist program.
-Those employed at MMH prior to 2009 who graduated from an accredited surgical
 technology program may be grandfathered in to the surgical technology position,
 Policy Tech Ref#: 5768 Date Approved: 09/11/2017 Last Reviewed: 03/13/2024
 however if they terminate employment and return they must return with
 Certification.
-Experience in women’s services preferred
-BLS required upon hire


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
 To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential
 responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals

-Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for
 clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift
 device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum
 limits.
