The Pharmacy Tech Outpatient Pharmacy Buyer performs all essential duties and responsibilities of a registered pharmacy technician under the supervision and direction of a pharmacist and in accordance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) regulations. Also, assist pharmacist-incharge in performing advanced pharmacy related tasks to ensure the availability of medications and to minimize the cost of acquisition by adhering to established contracts.

 

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE

Monday - Friday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Properly perform all the essential duties of a Pharmacy Buyer such as ordering and maintaining pharmaceutical and supply inventories, processing invoices, and documenting and maintaining pharmacy records.
  • Ensures that all pharmacy staff remains aware of any drug shortages.
  • Ensures that recalled and expired medications or excess pharmacy stock is returned to the vendor for maximum credit.
  • Maintain “Super-User” functionality with all the technologies in Outpatient Pharmacy, including evaluating and troubleshooting pharmacy technologies related to pharmacy workflow.
  • Assist pharmacist in processing and troubleshooting insurance claims.
  • Provide guidance and support to Outpatient Pharmacy Technician Level I to ensure all pharmacy related tasks are properly completed.
  • Assist pharmacist-in-charge in training pharmacists to understand and be familiar with all the regulations and requirements of a retail pharmacy, department’s policies and procedures, and outpatient pharmacy technologies.
  • Have great interpersonal skills to interact effectively with physicians, patients, and co-workers.
  • Maintains excellent quality of work, customer service, and intermediate computer skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE                                                               

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Must be certified either through PTCB or NHA and registered with the state as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Must have at least one year of outpatient pharmacy experience and basic knowledge of pharmacy workflow and pharmaceutical supply chain preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  The individual must be able to:

  • Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff.  The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
