Performs the essential duties, responsibilities, and primary functions of a hospital chaplain which involves pastoral visitation with patients and family members, responding to emergency situations, and ministry to the hospital staff. Under the supervision of the Director of Chaplaincy Services, the chaplain works together with physicians, the hospital staff, administration, Chaplaincy Department personnel, volunteer chaplains, and the religious community on a professional basis to provide appropriate pastoral care and attend to the general well-being of the patients, their families and friends, and hospital personnel.

 

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE

PRN: As Needed

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Provides appropriate spiritual care to patients, family members and hospital staff.
  • Completes assigned visitation in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate relationships with the religious community.
  • Observes the confidentiality of privileged or sensitive information.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Ministry, Theology, or Divinity is preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of chaplaincy experience in a healthcare setting, or four units of Clinical Pastoral Education is preferred.
  • Possesses or is eligible for ecclesiastical endorsement within one year of date of employment from a religious denomination to serve as a healthcare chaplain.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The individual must be able to:

  • Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
