The Registered Nurse is responsible for the pre-operative nursing assessment of patients being prepared for a variety of surgical procedures. They will obtain a comprehensive medical history and obtain patient information pertinent to anesthesia, ensuring that all necessary information, investigations and results are collated and presented to the anesthesia department prior to the patients’ scheduled surgery. Report to Anesthesiologist and in some cases the medical care providers, problems and / or issues that may require attention or further investigation prior to scheduled surgery. Act as the coordinator of patient information so that anesthesia care can be optimized for the surgery patient

 

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE

Monday - Friday

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

· Complete a comprehensive assessment. This includes the initial and ongoing, extensive collection, analysis and interpretation of data.
· Synthesize the data collected during the comprehensive assessment to identify problems, make nursing diagnoses, and to formulate goals, teaching plans and outcomes.
· Implement the plan of care. The RN may begin, deliver, assign or delegate certain interventions within the plan of care for patients within legal, ethical, and regulatory parameters and in consideration of health restoration, disease prevention, wellness, and promotion of healthy lifestyles.
· Evaluate and report patient outcomes and responses to therapeutic interventions in comparison to benchmarks from evidence-based practice and research findings and plans and follow-up care and referrals to appropriate resources that may be needed.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· An Associate’s degree (ADN) or diploma in nursing is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is preferred. Our aim is that MMH nurses are prepared at the BSN level. We are committed to support your pursuit of a BSN education. A BSN and certification in clinical area of expertise will be required to advance within the clinical nurse professional practice ladder.
· Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse.
· Current BLS Certification which should be renewed every two years.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The individual must be able to:

          · Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another     individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
