
The Trauma PI and Outreach Nurse Coordinator is responsible for implementing and maintaining a comprehensive trauma performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) program, as well as managing the program’s outreach and education activities. This position ensures compliance with the American College of Surgeons (ACS) verification standards and state trauma designation requirements, enhancing the quality of trauma care delivered across the continuum.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
- Develop, implement, and maintain the trauma Performance Improvement (PI) & Patient
- Safety Plan (PIPS) in accordance with ACS and state standards.
- Use registry data to monitor compliance with key performance indicators (KPIs) and clinical practice guidelines.
- Serve as a liaison between the trauma service, emergency department, surgical teams,critical care, nursing units, and ancillary departments to resolve care issues.
- Provide education to staff and providers on trauma protocols, PI findings, and bestpractice standards.
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver trauma education programs for internal and external audiences.
- Respond to trauma activations while in house and serve as a resource regarding the care of the trauma patient.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
- Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse
- Clinical nursing experience in trauma, ED, or critical care nursing
- Certification in area of specialty (e.g., CEN, CPEN, CCRN, TNS) preferred
- ACLS, PALS, ENPC and TNCC are required within 18 months of date of employment.
- AAAM AIS15 & Trauma ICD-10 coding within 18 months of date of employment.
