The RN, with a focus on patient safety, is required to function within the parameters of the legalscope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations;and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practicesetting. The RN functions under his or her own license and assumes accountability andresponsibility for quality of care provided to patients and their families according to thestandards of nursing practice.7 The RN demonstrates responsibility for continued competence innursing practice, and develops insight through reflection, self-analysis, self-care, and lifelonglearning.

 

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE

Full Time

7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

• Complete a comprehensive assessment. This includes the initial and ongoing, extensivecollection, analysis and interpretation of data.

• Synthesize the data collected during the comprehensive assessment to identify problems,make nursing diagnoses, and to formulate goals, teaching plans and outcomes

• Implement the plan of care. The RN may begin, deliver, assign or delegate certaininterventions within the plan of care for patients within legal, ethical, and regulatoryparameters and in consideration of health restoration, disease prevention, wellness, andpromotion of healthy lifestyles.

• Evaluate and report patient outcomes and responses to therapeutic interventions incomparison to benchmarks from evidence-based practice and research findings and plansany follow-up care and referrals to appropriate resources  that may be needed.

• Demonstrates positive effective communication, including education with patients andfamilies, physicians and other healthcare team members, and professionalcommunications skills.

• Actively participates in interprofessional team rounds and care plan development andimplementation.

• Demonstrates proficiency in using the electronic medical record providing accurate,timely and complete documentation of plan of care and assessments and respect ofpatient’s rights and confidentiality.

• Provide a safe environment for patients, families and co-workers, including handwashing, and adherence to infection control policies.

• Demonstrate professionalism including current AED’s and other competencies, followingdress code policies, leading patient care activities in conjunction with unit leadership.

• Responsible for orienting, educating, and precepting a variety of students, nurse interns,and new employees.

• Responsible for supporting the daily operations of the unit in conjunction with unitleadership (e.g., patient concerns, staff concerns, room assignments, data collection,process flow, staff utilization, etc.)

• Responsible for the communication, growth and development of self, peers, and students.

• Responsible for assigned quality management audits and related review of data inconjunction with unit leadership

• Responsible for communication and relationship building through shared decisionmaking with unit leadership.

• Responsible for actively participating in unit-based shared governance to lead andimprove patient care

• Knowledge of healthcare environment demonstrated in practice knowledge, outcomemeasurement and knowledge of quality improvement metrics in conjunction with unitleadership

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• BSN required or currently enrolled in BSN program with graduation within 6 months ofassigned position. MSN preferred. 1-2 years acute/inpatient care experience required. 1year of leadership experience preferred.

• Licensure: Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse

• Preferred Certifications: area of specialty (ex: Certified Med-Surg) preferred. Should beacquired within 2 years of hire.

• Early Acute Stroke recognition and treatment required.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essentialresponsibility satisfactorily. The individual must be able to:➢ Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. forclinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-liftdevice or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximumlimits.
