The Clinical Manager (CM), with a focus on patient safety, is required to function within the parameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting. The CM is responsible for creating a safe healthy environment that supports the work of the health care team and contributes to patient engagement. The CM will provide expert, competent, credible, visible leadership within the department. The role is influential in creating a professional environment and fostering a culture where interdisciplinary team members can contribute to optimal patient outcomes and grow professionally. The CM will involve staff in departmental decision-making.
CM functions under his or her own RN license and assumes accountability and responsibility for quality of care provided to patients and their families according to the standards of nursing practice. The CM demonstrates responsibility for continued competence in nursing practice, and develops insight through reflection, self-analysis, self-care, and lifelong learning.
SHIFT & SCHEDULE
Full Time, Monday - Friday; 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
· Create and sustain a culture that supports staff to do their best work. Be skilled communicators, team builders, agents for positive change, committed to service, results oriented and role models for collaborative practice.
· Being visible and constantly communicating with the front line staff.
· Will work as a Charge Nurse 2 shifts per week.
o Ability to assess, project, and plan for patient needs
o Ability to make appropriate decisions by exercising independent judgement
o Communicate effectively with patients and families, unit staff, physicians and other departments
o Provide a safe environment for patients, families and co-workers
o Incorporate continuous performance improvement recommendations into clinical practice
o Supports and practices in accordance with hospital policy, procedures and protocols
o Facilitate movement of patients through the treatment process.
o Ensure quality patient care and compliance with legal requirements.
· Will work in administrative role for 16 hours per week. During administration days, will maintain departmental clinical manager responsibilities and expectations to include service excellence initiatives, people, finance, and clinical observations
o ED Capacity – Participate as needed to ensure throughput and ED patient flow is optimized. Anticipate the need to prepare for boarders on the unit.
· Assure front line staff are competent and are committed to professional nursing and maintaining required practice standards.
· Willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the unit.
· Provide mentoring and support for all staff.
· Intervene when needed for patient satisfaction or safety issues as they arise. Escalate to Division Manager when needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor of Science (BSN) Degree in Nursing required. If no BSN, must be enrolled in a program and /or completed within 18 months of hire. Master of Science (MSN) Degree preferred in Nursing Administration.
· Minimum of 2 years of full-time Emergency Department experience required.
· Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse.
· Certification in area of specialty (e.g., CEN, CPEN, CCRN, CNOR) required.
· ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC are required within 12 months of date of employment in the ED.
